PCT Members and Friends:

Across the last four years, wildfires have substantially impacted the native riparian vegetation on Putah Creek. In some areas, non-native vegetation, like Himalayan blackberry, has limited natural regeneration of native trees. The loss of the riparian overstory would have a long-term impact on the riparian ecosystem, including the aquatic insect and trout population. 

PCT and Trout Unlimited are engaged in several restoration efforts in the Interdam Reach (IDR), including replacing plants with native species. Following an initial round of tree planting in December, we are now organizing a second event to finish our tree planting for the winter. On Sunday, March 4 at 9am, we will be planting and caging cottonwoods, sycamores, willows, and alders on the island at Fishing Access #5 (map: https://goo.gl/maps/eJtBDMsNn4C2). We are hoping for at least 20 volunteers to make short work of the project. With 20 volunteers, we should be done before lunchtime. 

Please bring gloves and waders. In addition, spades, ground shovels, and digging bars will be most helpful for planting. Pliers, sledgehammers, and post-drivers will be helpful for placing cages.

Snacks, water, and celebratory beverages will be provided. Best of all, you'll have a personal connection to the trees that will harvest your flies from future errant casts!
